Oklahoma City Community College must become more technologically effective and efficient. To meet the changing demands in technology, Information Technology is implementing the Area Technology Specialist Program. This program will identify individuals throughout the College to be trained to assist their colleagues with minor day-to-day technology problems. The Help Desk and Microcomputer Technical Support staff will remain available for support on more complex issues.

The Program:

  1. The College will provide training in software and communication skills for each individual. Technology updates will be offered regularly.
  2. Individuals successfully completing the training will be certified as an Area Technology Specialist. Not only will this certification benefit the College, but also give the employee new and enhanced skills.
  3. Recertification will occur periodically.
  4. Regular meetings will occur for all Area Technology Specialists to encourage and facilitate communication.
Identification of Individuals:

Individuals may be recommended by their Executive Council member to the Chief Information Officer. Applicants should be a current, full-time employee who has been employed by the College for a minimum of one year, and have positive communication and human relations skills.

Implementation Schedule:

Individuals must be nominated by April 23, 1999 and will be selected and notified by May 3, 1999. Training will begin in June, and completed by mid July.

Responsibility of Each Individual:

  1. Participate in on-going training as recommended.
  2. Make recommendations to Information Technology for staff development topics.
  3. Assist faculty and staff with minor day-to-day technology problems.
  4. Rectify any minor network log-in problems.
  5. Provide individual learning opportunities to colleagues about various software used on campus.
Time Requirements:

Initial training will require approximately two mornings per week for three weeks. It is anticipated that the Area Technology Specialist will spend no more than three hours per week assisting colleagues.
