My Freshman Year: What a Professor Learned by Becoming a Student

In an attempt to better answers student's cries of "You just don't understand," an anthropology professor took a sabbatical and enrolled as a freshman for a year. Her educational journey can serve as a lesson to us all on how to better communicate with students and understand their learning priorities and cultural perspectives on today's campus experience. In addition, the First Year Experience, Student Life Program Coordinator will share best practices used at OCCC.  Upon completion of this session, participants will know how to ask different questions to encourage student success and better understand the perspective of our students.
